Having already signed Marouane Chamakh and Laurent Koscielny this summer, Arsene Wenger has been repeatedly linked with Germany international, Per Mertesacker following his strong displays in World Cup.
Arsenal needs replacements for Sol Campbell, William Gallas and Mikael Silvestre and they are expected to sign another defender before the end of August.
Arsene Wenger also thought to be interested in Udinese's Cristian Zapata cause of his dream to play in England.However he said on the Daily Star Sunday " I don't know what will happen this summer, its still unclear".
Another player that be linked with a move to Arsenal is 30, Bosnian international captain, Emir Spahic. He is currently play for Montpellier in French Ligue 1. While, Stuttgart defender, Serdar Tasci remains a target for Arsenal. The Sun says Tasci could still make a £10 million switch to Arsenal.
